WHO SHE IS | PATH TO AAT | PASSION | PERSONAL
Who she is:
Dr. Manjula Battaluri is a dentist by profession, practising in Boston, US, for over 20 years.
Path to AAT:
Manjula graduated from VS Dental College in Bangalore and then obtained an advanced DMD from Boston University. At AAT, Manjula oversees fundraising initiatives, donor relationships, and marketing.
Passion:
A dentist helping an academy for the visually impaired might seem an odd combination, but Dr Manjula has shown otherwise. She is on a mission to raise awareness, train and improve oral health for blind children in India. Manjula has partnered with other dentists in India to develop audio-tactile techniques to help children with ‘muscle memory’ when brushing. “It took my breath away the first time I saw Belaku Academy and the learning taking place there. I am grateful we are on this journey together to change lives,” she says.
Personal:
Dr Manjula grew up in Bangalore, but has spent much of the last two decades in the US. She is married with a daughter Nikita who is the original inspiration behind her foray into philanthropy. Nikita piloted a project as part of her Girl Scouts program, winning the Patrick Henley medallion eventually. When not in her office, you can find Manjula enjoying photography and traveling the world.
